365 Safe Boating Beacon Award

Shining a light on those dedicated to building a safe boating community

2024

365 Safe Boating Beacon Winner is

Henry Cespedes!

The 365 Safe Boating Beacon Award acknowledges volunteer leaders’ efforts to enable boating safety education in recreational communities all year long. United States Power Squadrons, America’s Boating Club, together with Boat Live 365 thank you for helping us shine a light on those who work to build a safe boating environment on and off the water through their passion and dedication to education.

We received nominations from coast to coast, and are proud to announce our 2024 365 Safe Boating Beacon is Henry Cespedes, of Miami, FL.

“Henry Cespedes has been a recreational boater for more than 50 years, but beyond that, his unwavering commitment to recreational boating safety is the epitome of community service,” says Jim Emmons, Executive Director, Water Sports Foundation, Orlando, FL.

Henry Cespedes is a USCG Auxiliary member and voluntary Spanish language boating safety course instructor.  For nearly a decade, Mr. Cespedes has been the spokesperson for the Water Sports Foundation’s USCG-administered non-profit grant project, Boating Safety Outreach for Boaters, which engages Spanish speakers through Spanish language radio PSAs.

As a validated authority on boating safety education, Mr. Cespedes has been called upon for many media interviews, extending the safe boating education reach by 28 million media impressions on Spanish language television such as Univision’s Despierta América national morning show. In the past we have seen these media tours result in more than 40 television and radio interviews, including multiple appearances on national networks Telemundo and Univision.

Mr. Cespedes has never accepted payment for his work with the Water Sports Foundation. Furthermore, he denied reimbursement for campaign-supported travel insisting it was his duty to participate, and he has never turned down a request to educate.

“The United States Power Squadrons, America’s Boating Club and the boating public is fortunate that a person with Mr. Henry Cespedes education and Boating experience is willing to volunteer his time and knowledge to promote safety on our waters. Safe boating is better with friends and Mr. Cespedes is certainly a friend.” – Past Chief Commander, Luis Ojeda, SN

2024 365 Safe Boating Beacon Winner is Henry Cespedes!
